The Alaskan Adventure Begins!!!

So, after sitting in the Memphis airport waiting for a delayed plane it dawned on me ... I should write a blog about my Alaskkan adventures, the daily craziness and all the yummy food I encounter!! So, I apologize in advance for this is my first blog centered around a trip .. Hopefully I can take everyone with me!!!!

--------------------------------------
The adventure begins all the way back in Cabot - waking up @ 3:30 am CST to pack up my little Yorkie and drive to Memphis where I met my dad and we went to the airport. They always tell you to get to the airport "x" amount of hours prior to your flight, but it never fails that I fly through security and sit at the terminal waiting for 1.5 hours or more (not that I'm complaining...). (Oh, funny side note - the TSA agent at the security point didn't believe that I was the age that I am - she said, "you just don't look that old" - of course I get that all the time .. Just didn't realize it would cause a gov't employee to scrutinize if my drivers liscense was real!)

While sitting at the terminal I do what any other person does, people watch, of course!! I quickly realize that my plane flight is full of senior citizens, with their rolling luggage and matching blue/green name tags stating that they're members of "Senior Circle". From overhearing snippits of conversation, they were also going on a cruise to Alaska, but on the cruise line Celebrity. I have a feeling that same general population will be on our ship .. I'm sure it'll make for some very funny stories and maybe funny pictures!!!

The plane flight went well - we left Memphis in a storm, which made for a very bumpy take off. For the person who easily gets motion sickness .. This was not the most fun place to be!! Luckily it calmed once we got above the storm and the rest of the flight was fairly uneventful. I had some good conversations with the guy in the seat next to me and got some good pictures of Mt.Rainier (although I was kicking myself for not having my big Nikon in my carry on).

We landed in Seattle with no problems, I met my mom & grandma and off we went to experience all that Seattle tourism has to offer! We drove down to Pike Place Market and saw all the ecclectic people and different booths with fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, crab, shrimp and flowers. It was a very interesting a neat place. We ate lunch at Lowell's Fresh Market where I had fish & chips and my mom & grandmother split a turkey club. It was pretty good and it offered a good view of the water. It was my first taste of seafood - which I'm sure will be plentiful over the next 2 weeks!

After walking around the market, we headed to a mall (Mom and grandmother felt much more comfortable in that setting!). We met a family friend and her daughter for dinner @ Cheesecake Factory and caught up on where everyone was and what everyone was doing. By this point my iPhone was dead and I had been up for 18 hours and was exhausted. We headed back to the Holiday Inn and crashed.

Today promises to be interesting for sure. We're headed to board the ship around 11 and the ship sails at 5. Hopefully more pictures are to come!!
