Day @ Sea - Heading to Anchorage

Rockin' and Rollin' - and not in the musical sense!! The ship has been moving so much that a lot of people stick to the side of the hallway with the handrails and are having difficulty maintaining their footing. It's really kinda funny watching people walk down the hallway, stumbling like they're drunk @ 10 in the morning ... It's quite comical!!

Today has been deemed "lazy restful day". We have done a whole bunch of nothing!! (and it has been great!!!)

I was the only one who went up to the Lido to grab breakfast, the other two just got some pastries from the lounge down the hall. After breakfast we stayed in the room for a while. With all of the rocking it is very difficult form my grandmother to move from place to place - so the room is where we spent most of the day! :)

We did venture out to the Crow's Nest for a cocktail party with the hotel staff, cruise director and the captain. It was a nice opportunity to meet new people and get free appetizers & drinks. We just had a few nibbles while we were there so we headed down to Lido for lunch. They had the taco bar open today, so we decided to make nachos and call it a day!!

After lunch, I went back to the Crow's nest for team trivia while the other 2 went back to the room. This trivia challenge was the most difficult so far .. I think we got 16/35 points ... No good!!

Once trivia was over, I headed back to the room and ended up taking a short nap before heading to the Explorer's Lounge for "tea time chat" with Jeff Nease, the commedian from last night. He was very funny and it was interesting to hear about his life.

After tea time (were no tea was served ...), I headed back to the room to get ready for the formal dinner. The ship was still rocking and rolling and it even knocked a tray of food on the floor, breaking the china plates!!!

For dinner I had orange shrimp cocktail, mushroom soup, and crab leg .. The crab was exceptionally good!! For dessert I chose the "dam" devil chocolate cake .. It was very good as well!

(For those who don't know - the Holland America Cruise Line names all of their ships with 'dam' at the end - Veendam, Amsterdam, Volendam, Zuiderdam, etc - their fleet is known as the 'Dam Ships' .. Hence the name of the cake)

After dinner, my grandmother returned to the room (her leg was hurting her and she wanted to rest up for Anchorage tomorrow) while mom and I went back to the Crow's nest to play trivia. We did better this time, 14/17 .. Not too shabby!!

Once trivia was done we headed to the piano bar and listened to music until we decided it was time to go to bed. I am currently laying in bed desperately trying to finish writing this before falling asleep!! The sea has calmed somewhat and we aren't rocking as much ... I just hope that the weather is somewhat nice while in Anchorage tomorrow!!!!

Goodnight, moon - goodnight, stars!
