We made it to Homer - Halibut capital of the world. A drinking town with a fishing problem! There are 9 bars in this town of 5,000 year-round citizens!!! It is also home to millions of Seagulls!!

The ship got into port around 9:30 in the morning and we had an excursion to discover Homer and it's history. Our first stop was the Pratt Museum - an interesting little place that gave some of the history of Homer, homesteading, fishing, boating and the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

The unfortunate part of this excursion (and Homer in general) is that they use school buses to shuttle people from one place to another. For most people this isn't a problem ... But it was just too difficult for my grandmother to constantly get on and off a bus ... So we abandoned the excursion and got a cab.
We went to the top of the "hill" for some nice pictures of the Kachemak Bay and got to see some of the local stores, flowers and highlights.

After seeing the scenery, we decided to go over to the Homer Spit, where all the gift shops were.

Homer, Alaska, is also the home of the Time Bandit, one of the main ships on 'The Deadliest Catch'. They have a gift shop on the Spit - and lucky us, the actual ship came into dock last night!! (yes, nerd/dork .. Always)

Pretending to be a crab .. Oh my :)

After checking out the Time Bandit, I met back up with my mom and grandmother (they weren't interesting in seeing the ship) and we grabbed some pizza at Finn's - a wood grilled pizza place. The pizza was pretty good and you could sit there and watch them make it right and front of you, then place it into the large oven - pretty neat!
After lunch we walked around a bit, just checking out the different shops and sights. We checked out the Salty Dawg Saloon - they had dollar bills hanging from the walls and ceilings - but we didn't stop to drink - just passed through.

Before we left the town and headed back to the ship, we checked out the fishman's memorial - erected for all the fishermen who went out to sea and never returned.

Tonight we're dined at the Italian restaurant for the first time ...very good!! HIGHLY recommended!! I had minestrone soup, lasagna and some chocolate cake that was very good. We also got cotton candy with our meal for some reason .. I have no idea!!!

Tomorrow we'll be in Kodiak, AK - hopefully I'll have cell service there!
