Choppy Water Out to Sea

As we headed to bed last night, the rocking and rolling started back up again. I'm kind of surprised how rough it got because I have always heard how calm the water in Alaska is. It got so rough outside that our furniture on the balcony moved and some things fell into the bathtub!! Crazy!!

I woke up around 5:45 and debated on staying up to catch the sunrise, but it was just so foggy outside that even if I had stayed up I wouldn't be able to see the sunrise through the haze. So, back to bed I went, not to see the outside again until 8:30 (that is SUPER late for me)!! Lucky for me both my mom and grandmother had been up for a while and were almost ready to head out and get breakfast/ explore.

Off to the Lido deck we traipsed (if you want to call our staggering due to a rocking boat "traipsing"). Breakfast was good - I had peach & walnut pancakes (something I am going to have to try on my own when I get home b/c they were pretty good)!

After breakfast we went out to the main pool because they were having a sale on all of their Alaska Holland America apparel & accessories. I got 3 Alaska t-shirts for $20 ... Not too bad!

After searching through the sale stuff and making our purchases, we went to the excursion office. Prior to leaving, my grandmother had purchased some shore excursions for all 3 of us, but now that I see all they have to offer I am debating on changing some of mine. I want to go kayaking, but I have never done it before. My options were a 2 person kayak in Juneau (tomorrow) for 2.5 hours, single kayak in Icy Straights on Wednesday for 2.5 hours or in Homer later in the week for 6 hours. I figured the 6 hour one was probably not a wise idea because I don't know how to kayak. I finally decided on taking the one in Icy Straights. It only gives me 20 min time to get from one excursion to the next (sight seeing Hoonah), but it was my best option.

After deciding on the excursion, we started entering Tracy Arm. It was still fairly foggy and the further in we went the more narrow the passage became.

We figured before we got to the glacier at the end we should grab some lunch. I had a yummy chicken pesto wrap and apple/pecan salad. Pretty good if I do say so!! As we were eating we started seeing floating ice chunks that had broken away from the glacier.

It was really amazing how blue they were!!!

As we went around the bend, the rain began to subside and the beautiful Stephen's glacier was smiling back at us all. It is so breathtaking that no picture can do it justice!!

It was awesome, breath-taking, beautiful - and any other synonym adjective for the best thing ever. :)
I have hundreds of more pictures, but didn't want to overtake the blog with photos!

Tomorrow we go to Juneau, that is where I go on the photo safari in the afternoon - I absolutely can not wait .. I'm hoping for non-rainy weather (although I'm sure we'll have some form of precipitation).
