Juneau What I'm Talking About?!?

Ok - Let me start by saying that this place is absolutely amazing!! The number of things to do outdoors and experience is awesome! It really is making me second guess not applying for the open PT position that was here in the school systems! (No worries to all my Allied friends, I'm staying put ... Can't do hippotherapy in Alaska!!)

So before I go into the day @ Juneau, I'll back up a bit. Around 9:00 last night we set anchor close to Juneau so we could get in early this morning. This was great because the ship wasn't rocking & rolling and we all slept soundly.

We got into Juneau around 6:30-7 this morning and it was insane watching us dock. When we got here there were already 2 other ships in Port and we had to dock right in front of one of them ... It was a VERY narrow squeeze!! I really have no idea how they park this big huge thing without hitting anything (years of practice I'm sure ... Or, at least I hope!!)

That Royal Caribbean one was at our last port of call and we had to park right in front of it!! They got so close at one point that you could have played volleyball back and forth from the balcony of one ship to the balcony of the other!!!

Once we docked, we decided that we were going to do a similar thing as to what we did in Ketchikan so we got a taxi to take us around to the places we wanted to see. Of course, it was pouring down rain (because that is the typical weather in Alaska)

Our first stop was the Russian and Catholic churches.

After checking out the churches, we headed towards the Mendenhall Glacier. This was a very interesting place, but also fairly crowded. The glacier view is just amazing!

After going through the visitor center and taking a few pictures, we headed back towards the ship. On the way we stopped at Wal Mart (yes, there is one here in Juneau, AK) because I needed some fingernail polish remover and a new toothbrush. Plus, we can now say that we have been inside a Wal Mart in Alaska! (dork, I know!)

Once we got back into downtown Juneau, we stopped at the Red Dog Saloon for lunch. We had read that you should try a Duck Fart while at the Saloon. The recipe for a Duck Fart Is a follows: 1/2 Khalua, 1/2 Crown, 1/2 Baileys (how you have 3 halves I'm not quite sure!)

After lunch we decided to walk around the stores .. I made no purchased since I had to rush through and get ready for the photo safari (my next excursion).

After some brief shopping it was time for me to meet the people for my Photo Safari by Land & Sea. We first went out into the sound in hopes of finding whales! On our way out we saw a Bald Eagle!

We got to see a lot of Orcas!! The tour guide told us that she only sees Orcas 3-4 times per month - so we were very lucky!! We also saw humpback whales!!

After the whales, we headed back to Mendenhall glacier for more photos.

Today was great, and I could write a ton more, but we're leaving port now and I have to post before loosing internet!! Hope all is going well!!
