We got off the ship and found a cab driver who would drive us around Ketchikan and to the tourist places.
First we went to Totem Bight.

And yes, we were pretending to pick the totem's nose .. Don't ask.
After going through Totem Bight, we went to Herring Cove in hopes of seeing black bears. We did see a momma bear and 2 cubs and then a yearling - unfortunately they were very far away and I just don't have a big enough zoom lens.

After seeing the bears, the wind and rain started really picking up. Supposedly they have had between 12-15 inches of rain in the last 2 days!!! We decided we would check out the waterfall nearby since there was so much water. The waterfall was so powerful that it sent mist up over the ridge I had to climb to take a picture of it .. Got me and my camera drenched!

After experiencing the crazy waterfall, we went to the Totem Heritage Center. A really neat place that explained some of the history behind the totems - some that were carved in the 1700's!!! They also had some very interesting masks as well.

After the heritage museum, we went to attempt to see the Salmon Runs. Unfortunately, since they had recently gotten so much rain, the salmon were not able to swim against the strong current and were not jumping up out of the water for us to see.

We then went to Creek Street. Home of many tourism stores and home of Dolly - the owner of the last house of ill repute in Ketchikan. Supposedly she was "displaying her goods" until she was 70 years old!!!! Wow ...
This was the street that headed to her house:

Supposedly the "Time Bandit" from Deadliest catch was in Ketchikan today - I did see a larger black vessel with a crane on it, but didn't realize it was the Time Bandit or I would have taken a picture (even though they were pretty far away). Maybe we'll run into them, or another vessel, in Juneau, Sitka, Homer or Kodiak!
After getting drenched by the rain, we decided it was time to head back to the ship to grab a bite to eat and rest a bit. While my mom & grandmother rested, I made my way up to the Crow's nest to use my cell phone service while I had it. After saying "Hello, from Alaska" to a few people, I started talking to a couple sitting next to me. We spoke about one of my favorite topics: technology (computers, iPhones, iPads and cameras)! We talked for so long that we decided to form a trivia group and play the trivia that was starting. We ended up with 5 people on our team, but we did not do so hot - 9/17 points. Not winning .. :/ oh well :).
After trivia we went to dinner. We had tried to make reservations for the same table we had last night (with the same people), but no such luck. We did, however, get a different window table with a couple from Michigan (outside of Detroit). They also seemed to travel a lot and enjoyed going cruising. For this dinner I went with the Fisherman's Chowder, Alaskan Seafood Cobb salad and the Avalanche cake .. Very good!!

After dinner I ran back up to the Crow's nest to catch the last half of another trivia game (we are getting worse: 5/16). It was fun, but a lot of questions I have no idea .. Example : How many lbs are in a stone? (turns out the answer is 14)
After trivia, I met my mom and grandmother in the Queen's Lounge (the theater). Jeff Tracta, from the Bold & the Beautiful, who is also an impressionist was the act for tonight. He was pretty funny and did a great job changing voices (Obama, Joan Rivers, George W, Clinton, Jeff Foxworthy, Ray Romano, and many others).
After the theater, we headed back to our room. This time change is still getting to me - but it will be even worse when I head back east!!!!
Tomorrow we are going through Tracy Arm. This is where we go past a glacier. I hope that the weather is clear enough to see it!!! Tracy Arm is also the place where part of a glacier broke off a few weeks ago and broke the leg of a passenger on a cruise ship ... Hope that doesn't happen again!!!!
