Bears and Elk and Bald Eagles, oh my!!!

Anchors away! Land ho!! Shiver me timbers ... And all that jazz!!

Today we were in the largest city in Alaska ... Anchorage!!! One of the most interesting things about Anchorage is that the ship has to come in with the tide and can't leave until the tide comes back!! During the middle of the day, the ship was sitting in just 10 feet of water .. Crazy!!!

To start off our adventures, we hopped onto the shuttle bus to be taken into Anchorage. We were docked at the industrial park - where they bring in all the goods that are then distributed throughout Alaska. This was a highly secure area because it was not only where good are brought in, but also very close to the Air Force/Army Base.

When we got into Anchorage, we went downtown to check out shopping and sights. I was such a clear day that you could see the tip of Mt McKinley from both our ship and downtown (about 150 miles away). We are one of the 30% of people who visit Anchorage and are able to see Mt McKinley - the other 70% of the visitors aren't able to see it due to the weather.

Anchorage is known as the city of flowers.

They also had artichokes growing in the middle of downtown!!

And, of course, a Starbucks on every corner.

After exploring downtown for a little while, we returned to the ship to grab a bite to eat and then met up with the group for the excursion we went on.
Alaska Animal Rescue and Portage Cruise .. Absolutely one of the best excursions we have been on thus far!!

The Animal Rescue Center was really cool - and the animals were so photogenic!! :). (nerd ... I know, I know!)

We then went on a cruise in a smaller ship to Portage Glacier - got 200 yards away from the glacier!!

After the excursion, Mom and I decided to go back downtown to look around the mall, but my grandmother returned to the ship to grab dinner and relax. We didn't buy anything at the mall, but it was nice to see what was offered (they had the typical Simon mall stores as any other mall in the US). We got back to the ship around 9- but all the food was shut down for the night .. So we did the next best thing .. Ordered room service!!

We didn't get our food until 10:15 ... But that's ok!! Got to see an amazing sunset!!

Tomorrow we'll be in Homer, AK .. don't know if I'll have service there or not .. We shall see!! :)

Good night, from Alaska!!
